About Me

Full disclaimer: I do not own a stand mixer, even though there's a cute doodle of one in my header image.

I wish I could say when I first started cooking, but it was too long ago to remember.  Snippets are all I can recall: when my parents finally trusted me to toast my own Eggo waffles when I was up at 6am on Saturday to watch cartoons, when my dad first let me flip the pancakes, the first time my mom let me cook a full meal myself (it was Chicken Parmesan).  Since then I've graduated, and now have a little kitchen of my own.

To me, cooking is about the process.  It brings you closer to the ingredients, which brings you closer to the food, which brings people who share a meal closer together.  I like to cook from fresh ingredients, local when possible.  I try to be healthy, but I have a soft spot for butter (which I blame on my Polish grandmother).  And I try to be cost-conscious, because who can afford not to be in this day and age.  And I really enjoy dabbling in making things from scratch and by hand, which is why I don't have stand mixer (yet).  Plus there's just not room in my kitchen.
